Expelled from DisneyLand?!

That's not nice! A man has been expelled from the Happiest Place on Earth.. that is an injustice! I honestly think one of the best times of my life was in DisneyWorld (Florida)... and it really is a magical place...my and my bros actually got along and hung out together the whole time we were there. We felt like little kids again... but then again we were all like in our early teens. The lineups were psycho.. and it was like 35 degrees out.. but definitely worth the wait. Oh the good ol' days. Some of my best friends are heading down to Florida this weekend actually... they're married but totally bachay at heart. Can't wait to hear how they like it there. I was in love with Florida... can't wait to go back! Screw Paris... I am goin there for my honeymoon!! And .. GUESS who I ran into in downtown Miami?! None other than the man himself... Steven Spielberg! I literally bumped into him on the street... and he was in a tux headed to Planet Hollywood I think..

Ok this rant has turned into my life story in a nutshell... time to go.

SENATOR MOBINA JAFFER
Born in Uganda, Mobina Jaffer was educated in both England and Canada,
earning her bachelor of laws degree (LL.B.) from London University in
England and then completing the Executive Development Program at Simon
Fraser University in B.C. She is the first East Indian woman lawyer in
British Columbia and served as the Vice-President of the Liberal Party of
Canada. She was elected to Parliament in both 1993 and 1997, and in 2001 she
became the first Muslim, East-Indian and African person to be appointed to
Canada’s Senate where she continues to bring issues of human rights to the
attention of her colleagues in the Parliament of Canada. Senator Jaffer is
Chair of the Canadian Committee of Women Peace & Security and she has held
roundtables on racial profiling, finding peaceful solutions to middle-east
warring, and the plight of Afghani and Iraqi women. She is also involved in
the International community under her purview as Canada’s Special Envoy to
the Peace Process in Sudan.

LLOYD AXWORTHY, FORMER MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS
As Canada’s former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Lloyd Axworthy held one of
the most important jobs in the Cabinet and has been instrumental in
expanding the role of human rights in international affairs. Well known for
his innovative ideas on foreign policy, Mr. Axworthy promoted a "human
security" agenda that focused on humanitarian crises around the world. He
worked to achieve cooperation between governmental agencies and
non-governmental organizations, called for an international criminal court,
brokered a ban on landmines and drew international attention to the plight
of war-affected children. He left the Canadian cabinet to accept a position
with the University of British Columbia's Liu Centre for the Study of Global
Issues, and was recently appointed President of the University of Winnipeg.
In his current position as Director and CEO of the Liu Centre, Mr. Axworthy
promises to enliven our community with his insights on human rights, human
security, Canadian values in a global society, social and economic
development and worldwide societal and governmental challenges.

MAHER ARAR, HUMAN RIGHTS ADVOCATE
Maher Arar, a telecommunications engineer who immigrated to Canada when he
was a teenager, first came into the media spotlight in September 2002 when
he was detained in the U.S. during a stopover flight after Canada shared
faulty intelligence on him. What followed was a harrowing ordeal of
“extraordinary rendition,” the process under which Arar was secretly
deported to Syria for torture and imprisoned for a year. He was freed only
after his wife, Monia Mazigh, lead a public campaign to secure his release,
and Arar has now also bravely taken up the fight for justice to expose the
truth about whether or not Canada allows its citizens to be tortured in
foreign countries. He has succeeded in pressuring the federal government to
call a public commission of inquiry into his case, which has revealed many
shocking things about Canada’s national security agencies and the Foreign
Affairs Department. Arar was also named Time Canada’s 2004 Newsmaker of the
Year and was hailed by the magazine as a Canadian human rights proponent.

AZHAR USMAN, COMEDIAN
Azhar Usman is one of the world's few American Muslim standup comedians.

Ahhhhhh... something bad gonna happen?

My left eye has been twitching for the last few days on and off.. and I've heard that it means that something bad is gonna happen. :S But then in other cultures, the left eye twitching means that something good is to come. I'm SOOO confused!

Then again, it's all superstition... there isn't any real reasoning behind it.. right?? Because, the same thing happened to me a few months ago.. but I don't remember if anything bad or good happened... so maybe I'm jus overreacting. Desi superstitions are the worst though! They have NO basis, besides hearsay, driving them. What's the craziest superstition you've ever heard?

Stella Awards

The Stella Awards

Once again it’s time to review the winners of the Annual Stella Awards. The Stellas are named after 81-year-old Stella Liebeck who spilled coffee on herself and successfully sued McDonalds for making the coffee too hot. That case inspired the Stella Awards for the most frivolous successful lawsuits in the United States.

7th Place

January 2000: Kathleen Robertson of Austin Texas was awarded $780,000 by a jury of her peers after breaking her ankle tripping over a toddler who was running amok inside a furniture store. The owners of the store were understandably surprised at the verdict, considering that the misbehaving tyke was Ms.
Robertson’s son.

6th place

19-year-old Carl Truman of Los Angeles, California, won $74,000 and medical expenses when his neighbor ran over his hand with a Honda Accord. Mr. Truman apparently did not notice there was someone at the wheel of the car when he was trying to steal the hubcaps.

5th place

Terrence Dickson of Bristol, Pennsylvania, was leaving a house he had just finished robbing by way of the garage. He was not able to get the garage door to go up since the automatic door opener was malfunctioning. He could not reenter the house because the door connecting the house and garage locked when he pulled it shut. The family were on vacation and Mr. Dickson found himself locked in the garage for 8 days. He subsisted on a case of Pepsi he found and a large bag of dry dog food. He sued the house owners’ insurance company, claiming the situation caused him undue mental anguish. The jury agreed to the tune of $500,000.

4th place

Jerry Williams of Little Rock, Arkansas, was awarded $14,500 and medical expenses after being bitten on the buttocks by his next door neighbor’s beagle.
The beagle was on a chain in its owner’s fenced yard. The award was less than sought because the jury felt the dog might have been a little provoked at the time as Mr. Williams, who had climbed over the fence into the yard, was shooting it repeatedly with a pellet gun.

3rd place

A Philadelphia restaurant was ordered to pay Amber Carson of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, $113,500, after she slipped on a soft drink and broke her coccyx.
The beverage was on the floor because Ms. Carson had thrown it at her boyfriend 30 seconds earlier during an argument.

2nd place

Kara Walton of Claymont, Delaware, sued the owner of a nightclub in a neighboring city when she fell from the bathroom window to the floor and knocked out two of her front teeth. This occurred while Ms. Walton was trying to crawl through the window in the ladies room to avoid paying the $3.50 cover charge.
She was awarded $12,000 and dental expenses.

1st place

This year’s winner was Mr. Merv Grazinski of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Mr.
Grazinski purchased a brand new Winnebago motor home. On his trip home from an Oklahoma University football game, having driven onto the freeway, he set the cruise control at 70 mph and calmly left the driver’s seat to go into the back and make himself a cup of coffee. Not surprisingly, the motor home left the freeway, crashed, and then overturned. Mr. Grazinski sued Winnebago for not advising him in the owner’s manual that he actually could not do this. The jury awarded him $1,750,000 plus a new Winnebago motor home. The company actually changed its manuals on the basis of this suit just in case there were any other complete morons buying its recreation vehicles.

Chillin' wid da Bhabi

Yesterday me and Sahar decided to hang out because she missed me sooo much. She said it was like she was in Sarah withdrawal.. awww she can be soo sweet sometimes. :) So anyways, I woke her up at like 11 am and we decided to go catch a movie and shop at Square One.

We ended up seeing Fever Pitch with Drew Barrymore and Jimmy Fallon. It was a really cute movie.. liked it. That guy was crazy obsessed with the Red Sox. Reminds me of my buddy, Humarah and her obsession wid the Leafs! Anyways, while we were watchin the previews, I think a preview of The Interpreter (with Nicole Kidman) came on.. and there is a scene where she screams like madwoman.. haha it reminded me of Madihah when she screams! You so crazy Madihah. And then in Fever Pitch, one of Drew's friends reminded us of Sara R. it was too funny. THis gurl was tryin to talk Drew out of dating Jimmy and i cant put my finger on it but it totally reminded us of Sara and then one of the girls was like "you're just jealous" and that Sara chick girl punched the girl out.

Then we headed out for lunch. Got to school right in time for Sahar's meeting. Ran into Roohi, Naila, Rabeea and Henna. It feeels so good not to have exams comin up :)

SO rude!

I was on my break at work and i got a call from Sahar. She asks me if I wanna go to Singapore Gardens with her, Naila and Katie and I was like yea... come pick me up after work at 9:30. Then she asked me when Singapore closes.. and I said at 10.. and then they were like No... screw you .. by the time we get there it'll be closed....so i think they went without me!! HOW RUDE!!

That's it.. Sahar you are gonna be the maid :) muhahahaha. Don't show this to ur mama. I love you Aunty.

I made Chinese Food!!

I jus finished makin Lemon Chicken!!! Mmmmm it loooks good.. got inspiration from Sahar who was makin Aloo ka something earlier today. And then my Mom was like why don't you make something too! And she wasn't asking me.. her tone was more like "You're making something today! Grrr." So then I remembered we had some spice mix for Lemon Chicken! (Oh yeah, i didnt make it from scratch.. so dont think that I am some expert or something..)

BUT it tastes more like sweet n sour chicken... but nonetheless I made edible food. Hold ur applause.. the final test will be if the picky family likes it.. stay tuned.

MSA Dinner

Mash'Allah... MSA Dinner was awesome! I think it was just everything... the weather was gorgeous... Mohammed Al-Shareef was just very captivating and funny... a lot of people came to the dinner... food was good.. except that the lasagne ran out :(

It was definitely a good time. and there was ICE CREAM SUNDAES!! LOL... Sabina was right... about the lights! We were in the dark for like 10 mins waiting for the lights to slowly come back on... but entertainment was good... lotta stuff... and the paki letter thing was hilarious [an Arab girl married a paki guy and so she went to her Paki friend to translate the love letter he sent her..]

One thing that I really took with me from last night, was something Mohammed Al-Shareef said... he said there are 3 types of people: 1)Believers 2)Nonbelievers and 3)Hypocrites.

And we can determine whether we're a Believer vs Nonbeliever if we believe in Allah, etc.

But its harder to determine the difference between a Believer and a Hypocrite. He said, the easiest determinant of which you are is, the consistency of your Fajr prayer.

Something to work on, inshAllah.

It's the most wonderful time of the year...

The baseball season just started!! And the Jays did awesome in the pre-season they were like 16-8 (that's like the opposite of the Raps season.. lol) and they are doing great so far ... 2-0 baby!
