BIG Announcement!

My parents are going for Hajj insh'Allah!! We're sooo excited for them... they're leaving on the 6th or 7th of January insh'Allah... the weirdest and most worrisome thing is that their visas haven't come through yet!! Like come on... this should've been taken care of foremost before they started preparing for the trip... but apparently this is just how it's done.. or so the Hajj group leaders keep telling us.

Awwww... we're really gonna miss them too... for once we're gonna be the ones wondering where they are and why they haven't called. But the biggest relief is that they are goin with the Jawaids', one of our oldest family friends and so Farah & Faraz and us can all keep tabs on them :) May Allah protect them all and the rest of the pilgrims throughout their journey. Ameen.

By the way, if u guys have any special dua'as you want my parents to make for you, pass them along to me. AND don't worry, they're gonna pray for all of us to get married.. so don't even bother asking for that.. it's a given, trust me...haha.

400 kids + crazy parents + 4 hrs sleep + Skydome Hotel room shared with 6 girls + RIS = crazyyyyy weekend

Well I dunno bout you guys... but my weekend was crazy!! It was the weekend of the much anticipated Reviving the Islamic Spirit (RIS) Conference.... and alhumdalillah it went well... didn't get much sleep or much shopping or lectures in... but got done what we were supposed to: the children's program!

So let's start from Friday... got there right in time for my shift :D thanks to my Dad (Papa ur the best!) and I went to the wrong gate :( and the doors were locked... but luckily i was only off by one gate... there I met up with Shaz, Khadeeja and Roohi. Then me and Roohi ran to the Children's program... and then the madness began.

The children began pouring in... nonstop for about an hour... and before we knew it there were kids of all ages in every inch of the place... we tried splitting the kids up into groups of ten but then there just weren't enough volunteers per ten kids... so the group sizes just got larger and larger... I rem we played a huuuuge game of Duck Duck Goose... and the kids would get tired tryin to run around the circle... it was kinda funny. But we just kept running outta ideas because some of the kids were only fluent in French or Arabic... was a tough day... and then finding the kids when their parents came to pick them up was a mission and a half... half the kids were named Muhammad or Aisha! But it worked out... by 6:00 all the kids were gone. By 8:00 we were done cleaning the place and ready for the next day.. then me, Naila and Sahar dropped by the hotel room to drop some stuff off and ended up hanging out there for like an hour... then we finally hit the bazaar! Man in retrospect, I wish I'd done wayy more shopping... but ahh its all good... can't complain got some really nice hijabs and jewelry (thanks Roohi!) Hung out with some of the girls @ Gate 11 for a bit.. then i finally checked out Kashif and the guys' I-Slam booth, they eventually convinced me to sign up for the girl's league stuff... hope they didnt think i was serious lol... after checking out the bazaar... finally ran into the girls again and we headed back to the hotel. One of the highlights of the weekend was definitely staying with girls at the hotel!! We had so much fun... ordered lots of food... made up songs bout Bengalis... had some surprise guests drop by at like midnight... watched a cheesy christmas Nicholas Cage movie...slept in ofcourse (well i dunno if u call sleeping until 8:30 sleeping in...) ...was definitely a memorable weekend. Love you guys! Oh yeah.. and how could my sleepover weekend be complete without taking pics of people while they are sleeping or whatever state Madihahaha and Roohi were in... And ALL i hafta say is, Roohi is one funnny girl.. Saturday night she was dead tired... so she comes and crashes in our room... falls asleep by 1:00... the kababs and chicken arrive at 2 ... Naila opens one box.. all of a sudden Roohi was WIDE awake!! She didn't even say a word.. no one woke her up...she started eating away. Then when she was done...without a word fell right back asleep!

We were all late for the meeting on Saturday morning... but on the way we heard Sami Yusuf's soundcheck... sorta exciting... then it was back into the chaos of a full day of children's program. This time i took care of registration and signout... which turned out to be just as crazy... as i took care of the registration of kids A-H... WHO knew that majority Arabs and Pakis have last names starting A-H... and i had to hear the complaints of the parents. But it was great seeing the kids excited about coming to the program everyday... and then there were the kids that just wouldn't stop crying or acting up... The funniest thing was seeing the guys who were looking after the older boys complaining about how they don't want kids... There was this cute little boy... he must've been about 4 yrs old.. his name was Yusuf I think... this kid just didn't get tired... even after Sr. Yonette took him on this longgg walk thru the bazaar. Later he looked like he had to go to the washroom.. lets jus say he just couldn't sit still... but he wouldn't go...after 15 minutes of trying to convince him to go by bribing him with toys and candy... Sahar jus picked him up and gave him to one of the guys and it looked like the job was finally done. The kid comes back... and the brother was like he just wouldn't do his business... so whatever we tried. There must've been about 300 kids that day... it was madness... but all in all, I had an amazing time, met some incredible people. Can't wait till next year!

Ahhhhh school sucks!

I guess everyone whose in school right now can mirror those sentiments... I had 2 major things on the same day... I had a huge 20 page essay due on Thursday @ 9 am and then @ 10 am I had an exam!! And both were worth about the same in each course... but Psych is most important right now.... so i studied my butt off for the psych exam.

I didn't finish the paper... but on the upside I rocked the exam (Insh'Allah Insh'Allah!!). So then I was up all night finishing the essay.... which wasn't really the best thing I've ever written... but whatever... it's done! Then yesterday, as i was editing it... i had made a lot of changes to it and it was actually sounding cohesive... my computer gets messed up.... and it tells me to input the disk.. not enough memory or something.. and i hadn't saved it on disk! So after 10 minutes of freaking out... oh yeah and then that computer wouldn't let me log back into the system... I was about to cry.... so i went to another computer finally logged back into system and i was looking for my essay.... all i could find was my intro. Eventually I found the full edited essay... as it turns out i can't read properly when i freak out... so then that was that.

Then I had to find out where the hell the Centre of Religious Studies was @ St.George so i could drop off my essay. Khadeeja had found the address for me... ur the BESTEST Jooj ... then i had figure out how to find the building... so this might be ghetto... but I thought it was a brilliant idea.. so i went to MapQuest and got directions from Hart House to the Religion Building. Seemed like i knew what i was doing....so I get to downtown... it turns out I don't know where Hart House is...> and all of the buildings look the exact same... so i ended up going the totally opposite way.. ended up on College... needed to get to St.George ... so then i went back to the huge map that i had passed by on the way to College Street. The map was even more confusing!! So then I asked this brown chick if she knew where Hart House was... she was frosh and she didn't know where it was either... just my luck.. but she told me how to get to St.George St... wooo hooo. So what was supposed to take 10 minutes took me half an hour.. but i found the building and handed in my paper.

Saw a lot more brown people downtown this time... improvement. I was walking in front of this group of chinese kids... and i swear i felt so self conscious... because u never know what they're saying.. its just non-stop chinese... it's all Seinfeld's fault (rem Elaine and the place where she got her nails done) plus i was wearing my UofT bum pants... so yeah... that's my story. Maybe I'm just too used to hearing desi's talk and understanding what they say...

Fire Station... still no Firemen to be found..

Yeah, so I passed by the Fire Station... not just any old Fire station but THE Fire Station.. and it seems they changed their sign.... it's now:

SMOKE KILLS -- STAND BY YOUR PAN

I think we ALL know WHO that is directed to... hehe. I mean, what kinda indian or paki (or any other type of South Asian) hasn't had a raging oil fire in their kitchen before... so I guess these firemen who make the signs are on the right track... pakis and fires and pans are related... so stand by your pan.
