Finally Graduating!!
I'm graduating tomorrow, insh'Allah!! 4 years in the making, and I, for one, am really excited! But it's gonna be raining hardcore tomorrow... grrr.. there goes the picture perfect hair.
For those of you who haven't been thru the "process" yet... it is quite the complex process. First, they tell you to confirm that you have all the requirements to graduate after your courses are done.. then in September they freak you out by telling you that you're "eligible" to graduate in November after the deadline to confirm graduation is long gone (deadline was in August). Then you hafto order the gown and u need the confirmation number to order tix. Oh yeah, you only get 2 tickets... sorry Azfar. But don't worry, just for you I'll take tons of pics of myself.. wait, I already always do that.. okay so then maybe I'll take pics of other people and the ceremony too. Just to throw you off, you hafto pick up the tix during business hours.. no way jose. Then finally when there are 2 weeks left before convocation they send you a letter telling you that you're able to graduate in the upcoming ceremony. Well, that's a relief.
And the ceremony itself sounds very cult-ish... i dunno...
I'll let ya know how it goes :)

CONGRATULATIONS!!!
It was supposed to rain during my ceremony too (wayyyy back in Nov 2004) but luckily it happened when everyone was inside so we were ok. InshAllah it'll be the same for you :D
The ceremony is a little drawn out, since you're pretty much waiting just to go up, hear your name and collect your "degree" - but just so you know, you don't actually get it up on stage.
When you eventually make it up and off stage, you go around the back of Con Hall, someone hands you your degree in an envelope, you're then sent to get your picture taken, then you go back and take you seat. The whole process takes roughly 10 mins!!! And you're up and back into your seat so fast that you don't realize what just happened.
To wrap up, Azfar, you're not missing out. And Sarah, you can carry your purse in with you under your robes - something I didn't do and wish I had my cell to play games on because there's a LOT of waiting time!
All in all, you're graduating from one of the hardest schools in the country, and one of the toughest programs, so enjoy it because you deserve it!!!
umm...is Khadeeja...not "-" :p
Congrats!
You know what a degree from University of Toronto means for a desi girl --
It's time to get married!
Sorry, just voicing what the aunties are thinking ;)
Jokes aside, this is an exciting time! The ceremony can be dry but for some reason, I was really excited during my ceremony. To be honest, the whole thing reminds me of Harry Potter - the elaborate, almost comical costumes and hats, the robes that students wear, etc.
Make sure you get your money shot in front of Con Hall and University College after the ceremony. Too bad it will be raining, though.
As for taking your brother, the day of the ceremony, you can get tickets from outside Con Hall. Especially in Nov., when not many people graduate.
Congrats again!
yAy Baaji! don't fall face first on stage, and if you do, take someone with you, it won't be as embarassing then!!
"you're graduating from one of the hardest schools in the country, and one of the toughest programs"
Sarah did Commerce?!? No Way!
"It's time to get married!"
I concur. I'm dying to make another movie!!! I think I should hold auditions for role of SARAH.
Who's interested?
Thanks Deej & Hana! I really enjoyed Convocation... minus the rain. Alhumdalillah, it really is a good feeling seeing your parents so happy over your achievements.. they so cute.
FYI Affar, I did not fall thank you very much... and i suggest you recruit Lucy Liu ;) and NO i don't sound like Rani Mukherjee anymore!!
ConGRADulations! May Allah help you to be successful in all of your future endeavours. Ameen. :)
